Many people never think about working a night job. The general public is so ingrained in a nine to five workday, that working not all night is a concept they never consider. The work place is changing rapidly these days and many people are opening their eyes to alternative work schedules. Looking at a night job can offer some surprising benefits that are really an attractive alternative.

Unmarried and younger individuals are attracted to the night work because they do not have to get up early in the morning. There are many night owls out there whose internal clock makes them function on a different time schedule. There are many job options out there that are attractive to this group. Things like working from the internet in a home environment. Hospitals are open twenty-four hours a day and offer a variety of night shift jobs. There are also many factories that run three shifts a day.

Service industries such as convenience stores, gas stations and even restaurants all run a night shift. Married couples with young children are also starting to become attracted to this shift. If one of the parents works night shift and the other works days it can eliminate the need to pay for childcare for school age children. The whole family still comes together in the evenings like a normal family. By the time the night worker leaves for work, the kids are snug and asleep in bed. That parent then sleeps while the other one is at work and the kids are at school. Then everyone is back together in the evening. So while a bit unusual you can see where having this set up can be financially beneficial to a family yet not overly interfere with their quality time together.

Night Jobs usually pay more than the very same day shift job. It is called a night differential. It usually ranges from one to three dollars per hour more that the day rate. This can add up and the end of a two week pay period. Therefore, you can see that there are many benefits to the night shift and it is worth taking a look at. It does not fit into everyone’s schedule. Some people just cannot adjust to the sleep schedule so they are tired and unhappy with the shift. It can be odd to learn to sleep while it is light outside and work in the dark. However even the retail industry is beginning to get into the swing of things with everything from room darkening curtains to twenty four hour a day grocery stores.
