Bartender – Night Jobs

One of the most popular night jobs available is perhaps the Bartender. A bartender is the one usually behind the bar, he could either be one of the owners or just the employee who serves the drinks. It is one of those highest paying jobs if you know how to do your job well.

Although, you might think that bartenders only serve drinks, their job is not as simple as that. For one thing, they should be able to mix at least a hundred kinds of drinks, and so knowledge of different drinks is very important. Aside from that they should memorize the drinks of their regular clients to personalize their service. This one comes easy as usually regular clients form some bond with bartenders. They are also in charge of making sure that minors are not allowed to drink in the bar.

Normally, bartenders also have to be entertaining to their clients. Either they keep interesting conversation with them, or they must know a wide range of topics like current events or politics. Because usually people who go to bars simply need someone to listen to them and this is partly the bartenders’ job, whether he likes it or not. Sometimes a bar hires a popular DJ or personality as a guest bar tender for the night which serves as their main attraction or event.

A bartender also acts as cashier in receiving payments both from the customers and the waiters. He could also follow-up their orders from the kitchen when necessary. He should also be familiar with their regular customers and normally he would brief the new staff on how to better serve them. He should also be the one to call the police or the owner should any fights or mishaps occur during the night.

Sometimes a bar’s reputation relies on the bar tender. Normally, if they like the atmosphere at the bar, or if the bartender is nice, they are most likely to come back. And so it is quite important that the bartender must know how to deal with people and how to handle different queries from them. Bartenders are just one of many night jobs that are hiring in today’s difficult economy.

Being a bartender is one of those temporary jobs that would be good for your interacting skills because you would meet different types of people all the time. There are also instances where your customers may flirt with you, but as tempting it may sound, you should act according to your bar’s policy regarding this matter to keep your job. A large portion of his income also come from the clients’ tips and so if he knows how to plays his cards well, he will earn a lot.
